San Antonio Rose was found in
the King Williams historic home district in San Antonio, Texas. A lady who lived across
from the old Guenther Mill gave a cutting to me. She found this very petite, miniature
rambling in her one corner of her garden much like a ground cover. She said it had never
bloomed for her, but she knew it was a rose. Once I planted it in a hanging basket, single
white fragrant blooms just covered the plant in late spring. Basking in the morning sun,
cool breezes waft its green apple scent over the patio for all to enjoy. The five petal
blooms measure one inch across. The leaves barely a quarter of an inch. The canes grow
three to four feet. The plant hates fertilizer and likes extremely well drained soil,
making it a perfect candidate for a hanging basket. Use water soluble, liquid fertilizer
at half strength every other week. Miracle Grow or any other good water soluble fertilizer
will do.
